The Ultimate Quaterback Controversy

Troy Smith vs Justin Zwick

Well as all buckeye fans have seen, there has been some bickering going on about who should be the team's signal caller. Justin Zwick vs Troy Smith. Here is my thought on each and then who I feel should lead this team loaded with so much talent they don't know what to do with it. Mr Zwick- He was one of the most highly touted qb's coming out of massillon high school. People really thought he was gonna be the savior to the ohio state football team. He was redshirted and then caught some brief appearances backing up mcmullen and krenzel, and he looked like he threw a pretty good darn ball. Well after the krenzel days were over it seemed as if it was gonna be zwick's job to lose. well things weren't so bright after that. He struggled early and threw into coverage a lot. People started to rip his decision making and his throwing style as well. I feel for the guy being that we had no running game whatsoever. Watching Lydell Ross run the ball for 3 years is like watching open heart surgery. Not something you really need to see. Justin eventually got hurt in the Iowa game and didnt see the field until the Alamo Bowl. He looked good but lets face facts, the cowboys werent that darn good.This season- Justin was named the starter due to the fact that Troy Smith was still suspended. He looked great against Miami in the new found spread offense and hit all of our weapons all day long. Miami fans tried to say that 34-14 was a legit score but it really wasn't. They scored twice in the 4th against our 2nd and 3rd team D. Anyway he seemed to have a new swagger about him. He looked like a completely different quarterback instantly. The texas game, which we all would like to forget, he was pretty darn good too when he was in there. He had a few drops passes including the hamby mess. He fumbled at the end of course, but that was also a pretty good play by the texas defender. Now onto his counterpart.Troy Smith- Now my closest friends and even my wife know how I feel about this guy playing quarterback. I will be nice and try to focus on the positive hear. There is no doubt that he is a better athlete than Mr Zwick. He has the ability to run like a running back. He is quick and elusive, and is actually a pretty big dude as well. Everyone remembers the michigan game from last year and yes he was unbelievable on that day, but come on people we need some consistency. He throws the ball hard and yes he brings that running dimension. People always call it the other dimension which drives me up the wall. You have to have to have another dimension before you can have the other one. Now Zwick on the other hand only has one as well. So that is when we argue who should be that guy. There are positives and negatives to both guys. Who is my guy? Well I don't have the answer. It all depends on what offense they decide to run. For the record I don't claim to know more than the osu coaching staff, so please don't put me in that category. This is an opinion of course and I welcome any points of disagreement. You have to have an open mind to watch the buckeyes on offense anyway. We cheer for 4 yard runs now more than anyone. Anyway as much as I wanna say, run the spread with Zwick in there. He reads all his keys and tries to get it to our wonderful receivers. Now that we have Pittman in the backfield I am not so sure. I am likin this guy a lot. He hits the hole hard which we haven't seen in 4 years and he is quick. He put some weight on and he is not afraid to take some people on. I liked what i saw saturday formation wise agains the spartans. If they wanna run some more options and run out of the I more, then well smith is a better fit. They even were in shotgun formation with 2 tight ends and ran some screens. That seemed to work pretty well. Anyway, I don't wanna see the 2 quaterback system, which you can tell Tressel is not going to do. If he is gonna stick with smith, which it seems as if he is, stay out of the spread offense and tell our boy to look all over the field because this just in, we have some pretty good and fast receivers. Quit trying to make sportscenter and throw them the ball. Zwick can do that, but then yet we dont wanna keep running pittman out of the shotgun. Anyway that is my 2 cents on that. The Italion Stallion is Back

Well you can probably guess that I am pretty excited about the recent news that there in fact will be a 6th Rocky. Filming is set to start sometime in december and the movie should be out sometime in 06'. Yes I know this is a sports blog but guess what? Even though boxing has went down hill, it is still a sport. Anyone who knows me well enough, knows my obsession with these movies. It has been almost 30 years since the original and 15 years since the last one. I have been reading that Rocky is 54 in the film(59 in real life). He is lonely and retired and needs some money so of course he will be getting back into the ring one last time. Adrian(talia shire) apparently didnt want anything to do with this saga anymore because she is officially dead in the movie. She hasn't been in a ton of movies, so why she wouldnt still wanna be apart of this I have no idea. Hey if she wont do it, pay me 5000 dollars and I will hold that can that Rocky spits in between rounds. Anyway there are many doubters with this movie as you figured. He has been trying to sell it to MGM for over 5 years now if that tells you anything. Now first criticism is that stallone is too old for this. Well in case you haven't seen him, he looks like he could bench press uncle paulie about 100 times. He is bigger and muscular than he has ever been. Second, Rocky V didnt do so well. That is very true. It was voted one of the worst movies of 1990 and it only did 40 million at the box office, compared to the other 4 that went anywhere from 85-120 million. I didnt like 5 much. The acting was poor and he wasnt in the ring. The story had some promise but it just didnt work. So I say I am all for this one. He is very capable of making this work. It is still hard to believe that mgm didnt want sly for the piece. I cant imagine what it would have been like if he werent the star. I think he just wants to end this series on a good note. 5 was awful and he needs to make ammends for that. Supposebly Uncle Paulie(Burt Young) is set to return and he is about it from what I have read. The fighter he is supposed to face is Mason "the line" Dixon, and they have talked to roy jones jr and even vin diesel for the part. I dont want vin and have tried to explain to my wife many times that he is a horrible actor. He has the voice to do GI Joe characters but he should not be on the big screen. I think Ben Affleck, Ashton Kucher, and himself should make a movie together called " We can't act but chicks dig us anyway" Anyway sorry I got off track there. My family and I were discussing Rocky movies the other day, and it was fun reflecting back. My mother still seems to think I saw Rocky I at the movies even though it was made in 1976 and I was born in 79, so you figure that one out. Anyway I wanted to share my excitement. I now cant wait until this movie comes out. It will be interesting to see how he acts in this one since it changes so much. In I and II, he wasnt very bright and he was just another bum from the neighborhood. In III and IV, he was somewhat smart and sophisticated and then after Ivan Drago beat the tar out of him for 15 rounds, he turned dumb again and he got the old accent back. In any event I will be there to see it and I am looking forward to it
