WHAT YOU MAY NOT HAVE KNOWN

ANDRE " THE HAWK" DAWSON-

I am starting with him because he is my favorite baseball player of all time. he played with the Montreal Expos from 1976-1986. He wanted out of Montreal and he was campaigning to be a Chicago Cub. His agent and himself had been going back and forth with Cub's owner Dallas Green at the time trying to seal the deal to get him to wrigley field. Dallas Green had his sights set on a younger right fielder at the time who turned out to be somebody not worth mentioning on my blog. Dawson, who had been making a couple million a year with the expos was not going to get that kind of offer from Green. Dawson then gave Green a blank contract and said for him to fill in the amount. He offered him $500,00 for one year and said he would offer a $250,000 bonus if he met a few stipulations. First he had to get voted to the all star team and actually be a starter. Then he had to win the NL MVP award as well. He had finished runner up twice with the expos in the early 1980's. Mr Green offered this pretty much knowing there was no way he would do all that in his first year with the Cubs. Well like the man he was at that time, he went on to get voted to the all star team and start. He then hit .287, with a career high 49 hrs and 137 rbi's to win the national league mvp award for the first time. Even though he is my favorite player of all time, i never knew this about him. He went onto play 5 more seasons with the Cubbies, and he had a couple of stints with the red sox, and the marlins(who he know works for). I am still awaiting his induction into the baseball hall of fame. He has been on the ballot the last few times, but has not been voted in. Ryne Sandberg really pushed for him during his speech, calling him the best player he ever played with, so hopefully he is on his way soon.
